Week 5 Reflection 4..... Group 3 & 4 Tools Powerpoint Glogster Prezi & Dipity:Timeline

This week we examined tools that can collate and present interactively with multimedia using text, audio, images and movies  embedded within  Power Point Glogster and Prezi. each tool has excellent pedagogical value in the classroom where it can  transform educators and learners. Enabling students to develop a deeper knowledge, using tools that are creative interactive and challenging in an ethical and safe manor. Vygotsky Theory (1962) promotes learning where students engage actively learning.  A teacher should collaborate with  students to facilitate meaning construction in students. Learning therefore becomes a reciprocal experience for the students and teacher.
My focus this week will be on PREZI but I did have a little go at Glogster
  ( couldn't help myself )

  1. Glogster

Glogster is a Web 2.0 site that takes the blog to a graphical format. It can be used as a social and collaborative site where posters are moving and become interactive. I enjoyed exploring  the glogster  on line' scrapbooking' tool.       * Upload pictures
                                                                                *create video to embed
                                                                                 * Record sound to embed
I can see there is huge potential for classroom where students are each given different components of a presentation to do.It  allows students to work with their strengths and  have a buddy system where students can learn from each other.
Of course its not just about having fun learning needs to be meaningful scaffolding  and breaking down the steps for students would ensures student would meet the learning outcome of the task. This is allowing students to engage in learning in a positive, interactive, socially constructive way where

One task I would love to do as a teacher of English for year 8 would be Advertising Campaign students would be  developing their literacy skills, oral skills, persuasive language, and creativity.
1.Look at different forms of advertising/  teaching concepts of signifier  and silences
2 Choose an item  to "sell"
 2. Each student must create a logo and create a campaign
 3. Reflect on why it would sell why /Not/ what grabbed the attention ect

The ideas are endless check out these two sites.

 PREZI

Prezi is another amazing Web tool that is interactive with  visuals sound and images that can zoom
and grab the readers /viewers immediate attention. It has the ability to store large amounts of data that can have embedded links , you- tube clips or other media devices and web pages it has the ability to magnify the most minute detail . As learning managers it is our role to educate students in a productive pedagogically creative way by  finding tools and implement them into our core curriculum where students can develop deeper knowledge and participate as global students .The Prezi allows students and teachers to present information in a creative way ,by justifying explaining and showing examples ect
.
                 POSITIVES         MINUS           IMPLICATION
*An engaging learning experience for students to  link and retrieve information
*Used in class/at home (if away from school sick or holidays)
          * Parents can be apart of the learning journey through links (news letter /Homework)
          *Fosters team work /collaborative learning /sharing Ideas/update/edit/
          * Receive feedback/ parent /peers/teacher
*Generating content in an on line space
*Caters for all styles of learners ,Kinaesthetic, Visual,Audio, text, taste
*Available computers  Ipods Ipads and iphone
          * Student or teacher receive upgrade with privacy controls $
*Struggled with the initial set up, little confusing (  time & practice a solution)
*Small cost involved to ensure privacy for students
          *$59 annually or $159
          * Free site all public ( not secure for students )

As a learning manager the list is endless in presenting and demonstrating or introducing new concepts or topics to students. The students use would be similar in that they would be using it as a presentation tool after they had researched a topic content of the curriculum  e.g History class

  Decade of our lives
(  Individual  work or group work depending on  students and ability)
     1. Students to  choose a decade
     2. Investigate the era
      Fashion / music/Current affair/ transport/Cost of food/ famous people/
     3. Create presentation using video links/ pictures/ facts/music/
     4. Present to class
     5. Students  can make comments provide feed back on site to each others work
Students would be more engaged  as they are making links , using specific terminology, learning new concepts, enhancing visual and auditory information, leading to higher order thinking.

According to Vygotsky, humans use tools that develop from a culture, such as speech and writing, to mediate their social environments. Initially children develop these tools to serve solely as social functions, ways to communicate needs. Vygotsky believed that the internalization of these tools led to higher thinking skills.

 GROUP 4 TOOL TECHNOLOGIES....

DIPITY  ONLINE  TIMELINE

Animation and simulation is the key to this Web base Tool  once again it is an interactive video audio images and text tool that can be accessed not just in the classroom but anywhere.( this is fantastic if students are at home and need to catch up on work or away on holiday they could record what they are doing each day and allow the class to access.make comment and interact)
The timeline  is very user friendly and can be embedded into any web page .

Dipity  Timeline

Allows the user to pinpoint the moment with pictures, video, music, and news feeds ect on a particular topic once again the list is endless.
As a learning manager  it could be implemented in the classroom as a group activity .One topic could branching off in many directions. This would ensure class discussion, every bodies ideas  being placed on the time line ,Students could work collaboratively or independently. It engages all levels of learners allowing diversity and encourages higher order complex thinking.
Students are able  to think outside the box  and be creative.
A History  teacher may be exploring the History of the industrial revolution showing the different stages of developing technology. from the 18th century to 19th century.A class project could be to encourage students to search for information and embedding it onto the time line
A  SOSE Teacher may be doing natural disasters  and plot all the earthquakes onto the time line .  Pinpoint the epi centre and watch  how far it traveled in what time frame and what impact it had to the environment once again an individual or group task.

The  Time line I created was very quick about me this could be a fun way for students to get to know who you are in return they could do one about them self.A great way to bond and create a class where students Experience a sense of  comfort and order and feel accepted by teachers and peer
(DOL  1 attitude and perception)

Ollie and Mandy on Dipity.

The timeline can be made private ensuring  safe digital practice for students and teachers.
The TPACK  framework informs the learning design decision about content the learning manager will  introduce to students and how to select appropriate technology for learning using pedagogical design.

  1. Amanda, I love your idea about the marketing campaign in Year 8, especially since they are starting to analyse and interpret meaning quite extensively in that year. Wouldn't it be cool to go back in time and create a campaign for something historical, too? :)
